
Originally from Springfield, Virginia, Scott Bartucca is a freelance oboist and advocate for new music in New York City, his home for more than 16 years. He has performed extensively in NYC and throughout the country with such ensembles as ICE, Argento New Music Project, Ekmeles, AXIOM, the New York Composers Circle, and the Zorn@60 All-Star orchestra (CD released on the Tzadik label). Other recording projects include Björk’s album Drawing Restraint 9, and a collection of concertos by Ellen Taaffe Zwilich performed by the Kalichstein-Loredo-Robinson Trio. He served a year as an associate member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, and has performed with the first national tour of Little Women the Broadway Musical, the Chamber Orchestra of New York, Bronx Opera, and the symphony orchestras of Queens (NY), Charleston, Binghamton, Tallahassee, Key West, and Pensacola, and under the batons of such esteemed conductors as James Conlon, Marin Alsop, Michael Stern, and James DePriest. Scott has performance degrees from The Juilliard School and Florida State University, and recently completed his DMA at Stony Brook University, where he focused on the development of repertoire for oboe and piano by American composers. His teachers have included Elaine Douvas, Pedro Díaz, John Mack, Eric Ohlsson, and Carol Stephenson. By day, Scott supports composers and contemporary music as Director of classical music at Broadcast Music, Inc.
When not involved with music, Scott is an avid cook, RRCA and USATF-certified coach, and marathon runner, having completed 25 marathons to date. He resides in Jackson Heights, Queens with his naughty tuxedo kitty, Lucy.
